What is Runo?
Runo is a vocabulary companion designed specifically for children. Unlike general-purpose AI assistants, Runo can only do one thing: help children learn what words mean. This focused design is intentional — it allows us to make Runo safe in ways that broader AI tools cannot be.
How We Protect Your Child
Runo uses multiple layers of protection to keep children safe:
We Block Harmful Input
Before any question reaches the AI, we check it against word lists in 19 languages. Inappropriate words and phrases are blocked immediately — they never reach the AI at all.
We Check Every Response
Every response from the AI is checked before your child sees it. If anything inappropriate slips through, it's blocked and your child sees a friendly message instead.
Runo Only Teaches Vocabulary
Runo is designed to explain words — nothing else. It won't write stories, answer homework questions, or discuss topics outside of vocabulary. This narrow focus makes it predictable and safe.
Your Child's Privacy
We only store what is absolutely necessary: your account login details as well as basic profile information of your children like their name (it doesn't need to be their real name), their age range (so we can tailor responses to their level of understanding), a fun avatar, and the words they have asked about. There is no way for us to identify any child using Runo and we do not sell any data to third parties.
For Parents
Each child profile allows you to set an age range which modifies the responses Runo gives. Younger children will get simpler, fun explanations while older children get more robust definitions and examples. This helps children understand words, no matter what age they are.
